Asserting the Congress will be “white-washed” from the entire country after failing to perform in the northeastern states, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will win more than 300 Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 general elections.

Taking a swipe at the grand old party, Shah said, “Northeast was once considered a fortress of the Congress but despite Rahul Gandhi’s yatra (Bharat Jodo Yatra), the party failed to perform well in the recent assembly elections in three states in the region.”

Addressing a rally in Assam’s Dibrugarh, the Home Minister exuding confidence said the BJP will win 12 Lok Sabha seats out of 14 in the northeastern state.

In reference to Rahul Gandhi’s contentious remarks during his visit to the United Kingdom, Shah said the Congress leader disrespected India while being on foreign soil, adding if he continues to defame the country by spreading lies then the “Congress will be white-washed from the entire country after being shown the door in the Northeast”.

“The more they badmouth Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the more BJP will grow,” he added.

Shah also stated that the contentious Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, or AFSPA, has been repealed in 70% of Assam, while Bodoland and Karbi Anglong are peaceful, and border conflicts with neighbouring provinces are being addressed.

Talking about the event that will take place on Friday in Guwahati, where over 11,000 dancers would perform in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Home Minister said, “Earlier, Assam was known for ‘andolan’ (agitation) and ‘aatankwad’ (terrorism) but now there is peace and people are dancing to the beats of Bihu music.”
